Put on 500+ solid miles of driving, including multiple hard accelerations in pretty warm 85+ high humidity weather, after having Roanoke Dodge put in Pennzoil Ultra 0w40 in my 2005 (big thank you to John Gastman who treated me like the sultan of Brunei while I was there and showed me all the Gen V **** toys inside and out - what a great guy).

I got exactly what I was hoping to see - a notable (5+ psi) increase in oil pressure both at idle and at throttle, so I'm very pleased with this new factory oil so far, compared to the ...w30 Mobil1 that got changed out. Since '05 and '06 Gen III's have the revised main bearings with significantly lower oil pressure at idle (25-35 psi), I used to feel nervous every time the needle dipped slightly under the 1/4 mark on the oil pressure gauge usually under breaking after a hard acceleration before stabilizing right on the 1/4 mark at hot idle. With the new oil the lowest I've ever seen it dip down to is the 1/4 level and it stabilizes at least 4-5 psi above it at hot idle. At throttle I get 60+ psi which also seems higher than before. Car drives great.

I guess I'd get even higher pressure with Mobil 15w50 but that's typically recommended mostly for track duty. Anyways, bottom line is I'd recommend the new factory oil especially to 2005 and 2006 owners, and I know SRT says it's safe for all Viper generations.

0-40 is the recommended oil gor gen 3's. Pennzoil 0-40 would be as good if not better then mobil 1

I've heard both 10w30 and 0w40 being the recommended Gen 3 oils. I'm not even sure there was a '-40' viscosity back in 2003 when the first Gen III's came out. I'm sure I'd have similar experience with Mobil 0w40, but in any case there definitely is an improvement from going 10w30 -> 0w40.

10-30 is the recommended weight for my 2004. My 2006 is 0-40. I can speak positively to both of those years.

Your wrong about this, the recommended oil changed, i just dont know when. But it is definately 0-40 for Vipers. Been discussed on many threads, this changed long ago.....

Re: OIL
No need to beat this to death...Mobil 1's 10W-30 ceased to be the factory fill after 2004...and is a LESSER oil than Mobil 1's 0W-40 or their 15W-50...just look at the levels on Zinc and Phosphorus and the viscosity numbers.

YES, while the Gen I, II, III recommemded SRT oil filter WAS part number 5037836AA...it has been UPGRADED to 5037836AB

Stop by and I'll give you an arm-load of "AA's" as I am only using the "AB's" on our Gen I-III Vipers!!

Good point about the filter too. I'd never put anything other than the ...836AB (white Viper filter) in the car.

I thoughtChuck Tator told me that the AB was just the newest year but was the exact same filter as the AA-

They are both specifically made for the Viper with AB simply being the newest version:
